About Solar For Energy

Our Vision - More Solar Power To The People

Our Mission - To Be Your Solar Inspiration

Apart from occasional solar panels on roofs during childhood, I didn't really encounter the use of solar energy for anything but tanning until I became the part owner of a beautiful wooden sail boat from the 1950's. Beautiful, yes, but lacking all convenience, including electricity. We used the boat mainly on hot summer days, so there wasn't much need for any heating. But for a fridge. So we installed a small solar panel on the after-hatchway and used it for a small fridge. It worked perfectly!

During this time I also finished my post graduate studies in environmental economics. My interest in environmental issues grew.

A few years later, working as Head of Section at the Ministry of Finance, I participated in the Kyoto Climate Conference. I experienced firsthand how incredible hard it was for the countries to reach an agreement. I heard Al Gore (then vice President) give his speech. I also saw the US delegates talking to lobbyists representing the Global Climate Coalition, a scary bunch of guys lobbying against any kind of actions to prevent climate change.

This was more than 10 years ago. Since then most countries including the US have become much more open to combating climate change. The Global Climate Coalition doesn't even exist anymore (and for good reasons!)

Still, there is so much that needs to be done. And simply relying on the governments takes too long.

Using solar energy at home is a great way to contribute. Even if it is just by installing a solar outdoor light in the garden instead of a regular one, it is still a contribution.

There are so many possibilities! And many you probably haven't even heard of. How about a solar birdbath fountain... ;-)

The aim of Solar-For-Energy.com is to be a source of inspiration and tips for anyone who is interested in trying to use solar energy on a small or large scale (and maybe save a dollar or two at the same time...).

So have a look around and see if there is anything that you can make use of!

Paula
