A Solar Power Water Pump

Solar Power Water Pump
Pump across & let the sunlight do the work for you

The Solar Powered Water Pumps are devices made to pump over small amounts of water using just energy of shining sun. For locations without power lines, solar pumps offer a clean and simple alternative to fuel-burning generators and windmills. They require no fuel deliveries, and very little maintenance.

And there is a tons of variants of using this device it could be a your swimming pool artificial stream, it can be a pump that farmers use to pump over water from the lakes for cattle, it could be a pump for human needs water from borehole.

Home Consumption

We will describe the most consumption home supplying with drinking water from borehole. The most consumption because first of all it is delivering water from a holes that sometimes achieve 300 feet and to pump water you will need system of electronic controlled pumps which of course will eat up a lot of energy though the system consists of low voltage DC pumps designed to operate on solar power that are not designed like 220-volt AC water pumps.

A DC water pump is designed to pump using the absolute minimum of electrical power. Unfortunately, this also usually means a very low flow rate, so having a storage tank or open trough is essential.

Although the flow rate can be less than one gallon per minute (GPM) for the smaller pump sizes, this small flow will be fairly constant throughout the solar day (9 AM to 3 PM for most locations).

This low flow rate can still provide over 350 gallons of water per day from all but the deepest well applications. As you of course understand this system needs a stable and reliable source of energy. The solar panel will be either to big (covering a large space probably whole roof of small houses) or quite expensive but compact azimuth-looking (panel follows the sun). So this makes this set quite expensive.

A solar module can be mounted almost anywhere, but should face in a southerly direction (for North America). Most farm and ranch applications should have the modules and pump controller mounted on a raised pole to stay above snow drifts and potential damage from animals. These solar applications made economic sense because the location was too remote to run a long power line.

The Installation

A solar-powered water system is one of the easiest solar power systems to install, since you will not need a battery or battery charging equipment. When the sun is shining, the system is pumping, when the sun is not shining, the system is off. When sun is shining and you are not using water it fills an elevated storage tank.

And this is the picture of how does solar powered water pump works.

And so The Do It Yourself project for Solar Power Water Pump. You will need some knowledge here. All you will need to do is to install panels and to connect pumps to them by wires. And probably you will need some guides to choose culvert's cross section to get necessary pressure.

Price for one Solar Power Water Pump kit can variate from $30-$100. Depends on type of pump. The device is practical because there is no expensive rechargeable battery and all battery-related problems.

Recommended Solar Water Pump

Solar powered water pumps can be used for many different purposes. Most likely a small project is easier to get going with. If you want to try it out, why not start with something less that your family's complete need of water. For example, here is a popular solar water pump aimed at ponds.
